How to Fix Power Seats in a Toyota Tacoma

Owners of the 2004 to 2007 Toyota Tacoma may find an irritating squeaking coming from their power seats. Contact between the seat track, locating pins and floor pan location holes are the culprit. Read the following tips to learn how to stop the squeaking with just a few adjustments.

• Flat blade screwdriver
• Power cut-off tool
• Grease, wax or silicon remover
• Paint

     Tape the tip of a flat blade screwdriver.

     Turn off you car and switch the ignition to the "Lock" position. Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery. Wait about two minutes.

     Peel away the plastic covers over the front seat track. Use your screwdriver to gently work the claws off of the track. Repeat for the back seat track.

     Disengage the LH assembly on the front seat. After pushing the seat until it's upright, unscrew the four seat track bolts. Detach the electrical connectors before removing the seat assembly in its entirety.

     Move the seat assembly so that you can access the seat track and see the locating pins. Cut off the shaft of the two locating pins by using the power cut-off tool. Leave 2mm of the pin at most.

     Clean the area of metal shavings. Remove any remaining debris with grease, wax or silicon remover. Paint over bare metal surfaces connected to the seat track so that corrosion won't occur on it.

     Reinstall the LH front assembly. Connect all disconnected electrical wires. Screw in all four seat track bolts, making sure to tighten them to the torque specification listed in your repair manual. Put the plastic seat track covers back on. Connect the battery cable. Test your seat for proper operation and the elimination of the squeak.
