The Toyota Tercel was a subcompact car manufactured by Toyota Motor Company. The Tercel was replaced by the Toyota Echo, which was later replaced by the Toyota Yaris. Since the Tercel shares many of its components with the Toyota Paseo, removing the radio in both cars can be done by following the same instructions. The radio in a Tercel can be easily removed in less than 30 minutes.

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket wrench

      Disconnect the negative battery cable before removing the radio. Handling or touching wiring without disconnecting the negative battery cable can be dangerous.

      Remove the trim panel surrounding the radio, cigarette lighter and folding cupholder. Grab the lower part of the trim panel and pull to release the clips, and then disconnect the defroster connection from the upper portion of the panel. Pull down on the panel to release the upper clips.

      Remove the four screws and four bolts mounting the radio assembly to the dash. Pull the assembly out and disconnect the antenna cable and wiring harness from the rear.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you plan on installing an aftermarket radio, make sure you have the appropriate wiring harness for the radio. Factory wiring harnesses are not compatible with aftermarket radios.
