How to Reset the Service Required Warning in a 2007 Toyota Tacoma

The light indicating that your 2007 Toyota Tacoma needs service will turn on every 5,000 miles. If you take the truck in for an oil change, the service center will typically shut off the light for you. If, however, they forget to reset the light or if you service the truck yourself at home, you will need to know how to turn off the light.

Difficulty:
Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Key
    • 1

Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. Do not start the truck.

    • 2

Press the trip odometer button until it displays the truck's actual mileage, not the trip mileage.

    • 3

Press the trip odometer button and do not release it.

    • 4

Turn the ignition off and then return it to the "on" position.

    • 5

The odometer will display five bars or dashes. These will disappear one by one. When they are gone, the maintenance required light will turn off.

    • 6

Release the odometer button and turn the ignition off. Your maintenance required light should now be off.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is possible to adjust how frequently the maintenance required light turns on by releasing the odometer button sooner. Each of the bars or dashes that disappears on the odometer represents 1,000 miles before the next time the light appears. If you release the odometer button when one bar has disappeared and two remain, the light will return every 1000 miles. If you release the button when two bars have disappeared, the light will return every ,2000 miles, and so forth.
