How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a Toyota Camry

If you notice the headlamp bulb in your Toyota Camry is burnt out, you can replace it yourself. This job doesn't require any special tools, but you'll need to get the appropriate replacement bulb before starting. These instructions don't apply to models made before 2002.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • #H11-55W and #9005 replacement bulbs (low- and high-beam bulbs for 2007 and later models)
  • #9006 and #9005 replacement bulbs (low- and high-beam bulbs for 2002-2006 models)

      Shut off the Camry's engine and set the parking brake for added safety. Also, make sure its headlights are switched off.

      Open the hood using the primary and auxiliary hood release latches.

      Locate the back of the headlight assembly and determine whether the low- or high-beam bulb needs to be replaced.

      Turn the headlight bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly.

      Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. Carefully dispose of the bulb to prevent it from shattering or cracking.

      Attach the electrical connector to the new bulb and insert it into the headlight assembly. Twist it clockwise to secure its position.

      Test the new headlight to make sure it works before closing the hood.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check the diagram in Section 7-3 of your Camry Owner's Manual if you're unsure about which bulb to replace.

  • Don't scratch or smudge the new bulb's lens as you install it.
